Rock Grouting

Specially formulated cement mixed into the ground

For water cutoff

Chimney Hollow Reservoir 聽|聽 Loveland, CO

The construction of a new asphalt core dam in Colorado required the installation of an upstream and downstream grout curtain on the main dam approximately 3,650 ft in length and a second upstream/downstream grout curtain for the saddle dam. We were contracted to construct both grout curtains for the new dam structures.

For water cutoff

A new surface reservoir under construction for a combined sewer overflow (CSO) system required a cutoff wall around the perimeter to decrease the flow of water in and out of the seven-billion gallon reservoir. We were contracted to construct a 7,000 foot grout curtain as ground treatment for water cutoff.

What is rock grouting?

Rock grouting is the injection of specially formulated cement-based mixes into the ground to improve its strength or reduce permeability.

How does it work?

It鈥檚 most commonly performed by drilling holes into the underlying rock to intercept open cracks, joints, fissures or cavities, then pumping under pressure balanced and stabilized grout mixes using a combination of cement, water, and additives. For larger, more complex projects, enhanced quality control is available through real-time computer monitored grouting software called GROUT I.T.

Why do you need rock grouting?

Rock grouting can be used to decrease water flow through fractured rock, plus it can be performed in areas with space constraints. It is mostly used for dams, tunnels, reservoirs and shafts.
